Procedures

Trademark Registration Process:

1.     Application request through the electronic services portal on the Ministry of Commerce and Industry Website.
2.     For individuals: Applicant’s title and name, occupation, nationality, and place of residence.
3.     For corporations: corporation’s name, address, nature, and purpose of trademark.
4.     Define products and services requested as a Trademark.

Attachments:

1.     Photo of trademark to be registered.
2.     Copy of applicant’s ID or passport.
3.     Official extract of trademark owner’s commercial register.
4.     Certified official authorization (if applied through an agent).
5.     Certified translation into Arabic, in case the application includes English terms.
6.     If the applicant wishes to enjoy the right of priority in trademark registration according to previously filed application in a country that is a  member of an international multilateral agreement of which Qatar is a member in, a copy of the previous application showing the date of application, its number, and the country applied in, certified as per the proper authority in the country applied in, and Qatar embassy should be submitted within 6 months from the date of the previous request it is based on.

Patent application process:

1.     Application request through the electronic services portal on the Ministry of Commerce and Industry Website.
2.     Define the nature of application
3.     Submit applicant’s data, designation of the invention, priorities based on, and agent’s data (if any)
4.     Copy of inventor’s ID or passport
5.     Attachments include brief and total description of the invention and protection elements, power of attorney for non-residents, extract of commercial register if the applicant is a legal person, transfer of ownership document if the applicant is not the inventor, priority document on which the application is based on, certified by its issuing authority
6.     Formal examination process starts upon application, with a possibility to return the service application and clarify the reason.
7.     As soon as the application is approved after examination, the applicant must pay registration and second year fees according to applicant’s character determined at the beginning of registration
8.     After successful payment, an email will be sent containing the application number, obligations to be fulfilled within a specified legal period, in addition to dates of annual fees to be paid.

Copyright and related rights registration process:

1.     Application request through the electronic services portal on the Ministry of Commerce and Industry website.

4.     Attach design measurements

Applications and IT software:

1.     Attach copy of the application / software source code
2.     Video and illustrative pictures
3.     Technical examination is to be completed in the Ministry of Transport and Communications

3.     Copy of establishment registration (for corporate)
4.     Copy of college ID/ school proof (for students)
5.     Certified authorization from Ministry of Justice in case application submitted via agent

8.     Data fulfillment form from workplace
